Twin Peaks’ Iconic “Red Room” Recreated as a 3D Street Art Experience (2017)

Background:

The legendary Twin Peaks was returning after 25 years and coming to SHOWTIME. Series creator, director, producer and composer David Lynch was naturally very protective of how the new series would be marketed and imposed restrictions which made launching a semi-new series a challenge.

Problem:

The only visual image he was comfortable in advertising was the Red Room.

Strategy:

Bring the twisted world of the Red Room to life through an immersive art experience that would reach new audiences in key markets and drive social traction and organic conversation.

Execution:

We worked with acclaimed anamorphic street artist Leon Keer to create 3D art installations outside of donut shops in Portland, Los Angeles and New York. With Leon Keer’s art interpretation, users could actually ‘sit in the Red Room’ from his chalk drawing and snap pictures for use on social.

Results:

Organic pickup and chatter from publications like Vice, Pitchfork, NME, and various street art Instagram creators.

The Big Win:

Pitching this to Lynch and it being one of the only tactics he approved for the campaign launch.

Art: Leon Keer and Nate Barankowski

Concept/Creative Direction/Strategy: Erin Joyce

Production: Vincent Genovese
