An Animated Webisode Prequel

Background: Dexter was Showtime’s first real breakout hit. Audiences loved this ‘anti-hero’ and wanted more. More content. More backstory. More clues. Research also told us that the show was indexing high with comic/graphic novel audiences, which makes sense because of Dexter’s vigilante nature.

Strategy: In the story-world of the series, Dexter had been executing to his unique brand of justice already for over 15 years. We pitched the series Showrunners on a prequel web-series, telling canon-official stories from Dexter’s past, using various graphic novel illustrators to tap into these interests

Concept: Dexter: Early Cuts gives audiences a closer look into the mind and history of Dexter, brought to life by some of today’s most iconic graphic novel illustrators.

Execution: Season 1 told the story of 3 different murders and what they taught Dexter. Season 2 told

Results: Nominated for an Interactive Emmy, Producer Guild of America Award, Webby and Shorty Award Winner. Additionally, the videos were pirated by rabid fans, spanned merchandise and were translated into over 10 languages.
